Cool Sculpting For Weight Loss: Freeze Your Fat Away

There are so many surgical and cosmetic options out there for those looking to shed a few extra pounds. If, like me, you are somewhat squeamish about going under the surgeon’s knife, never fear.  For anyone who needs a little additional help slimming down, there is a new kid on the block : COOL SCULPTING.

With the recent FDA approval for this method, not to mention the many dermatologists who have signed off on it proclaiming it to be safe, it is now available to anyone.

This week at Stick Insectz I set out to find out if cool sculpting really is cool … or not.

#1  First things first, the method of cool sculpting is simple in theory; a doctor uses a tool that targets a cool laser directly into the fat layers of the skin. This helps to break down fat deposits so that they can be flushed from the body. During the procedure a special applicator delivers cooling to whatever part of your body you would like to have targeted. This is often the stomach area but it is suitable for other body regions too.

The cooling is directed into the deeper layers of skin, specifically targeting fat deposits under the skin. In a nutshell,  when fat is exposed to this specific temperature, it is disrupted, it starts to dissolve and will eventually disappear.

Basically, you are killing off the fat cells.

#2  This process is totally non invasive, there are no needles or anesthesia needed. Because of this, there are no side effects or risks associated with the process. There is also no recovery time needed, you can return to your normal routine immediately which is seen as a huge advantage of this type of fat removal.

The procedure usually only takes an hour or so and there is no pain associated with it, though you will feel some pulling motion on your skin. There is proof that this method can decrease your fat in the area of treatment anywhere from 20% to as much as 40%.

#3 Depending on how much fat you need (want) to lose you may only need one treatment. But, if you want more than one treatment you will have to wait a minimum of 30 days between treatments.

#4 Some of the limitations of this type of treatment are that this procedure tends to work best on those that are already in pretty good shape as opposed to being obese.

It is always recommended to lose weight as part of a controlled program with proper nutrition and exercise as per your doctors approval. Think of this process as more sculpting than weight loss it is considered by doctors to be  the “finishing touch” … the icing on the cake if you will.

One thing I would caution you about cool sculpting however, is to note that it is no quick fix. It is simply one possible useful tool to be used in any weight loss endeavor. To not only get the look you want, but more importantly, to keep that look for a lifetime you need to be willing to make permanent changes in your habits. If you think you can just go in and have this procedure but keep the same bad eating and exercise  habits, you will most likely gain weight back and find yourself right back at square one.

Having said that , there are many instances where you might  simply need a little help. Maybe you have made some lifestyle changes and lost weight. If this is you and you just have a few problem areas or need to tighten a little loose skin, cool sculpting is the perfect solution.

So, who is cool sculpting for? Is it for anyone?

No, it isn’t.

If you are obese or morbidly obese this process is not for you. The ideal candidate for the treatment will have only a little unwanted fat to remove from certain areas of the body such as the stomach, hips, thighs and back. If you’ve ever lost a significant amount of weight you will know that there are almost always those stubborn pockets of fat that no amount of diet and exercise can ever get rid of. That is where this procedure comes in.

It can help reach and break down those pockets of fat better than even diet and exercise – since diet and exercise can’t really do any “spot reducing”.

If you need to lose excess body fat, your first stop should be your doctors office to find out if you are healthy enough for an exercise program. Your doctor can also advise you regarding correct and proper nutrition and put you on a healthy diet plan.

The cost of this procedure will vary somewhat depending on the doctor you see and the part of the country/which country you live in. In general, you can expect to invest between $700 and $1,000 for one treatment in the US. You may find that doctor’s offices near you offer discounted rates and better pricing. Do your research and shop around.

In some cases, one treatment may be all you need. It depends on how many areas on your body you want to cover. If you do decide to get another treatment you will have to wait 30 days between procedures so you may feel that this gives you enough time to save up more money. Some doctor’s offices may even offer a payment plan.

One important thing to keep in mind is that no matter how this procedure is hyped, it really isn’t a weight loss system as much as it is a sculpting tool. Rather than the first step to looking better, cool sculpting is the last step.  Make sure that you change your lifestyle in a healthy way and lose all the weight you can with diet and exercise first. This isn’t a quick fix solution.

All in all, this process can be for pretty much anyone, just not at any time. Cool sculpting is for anyone who has lost weight but just needs some help with a few trouble spots.

I hope this information has helped you out a little bit and given you an idea of what cool sculpting is all about. It isn’t a cure-all weight loss treatment but it can help you get rid of that last little bit of fat off of your body once and for all.
